In Search of Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Nutritionists are on a Omega 3 fatty acids kick, and it's no surprise. It seems like every day a new report comes out that shows positive effects from Omega-3s. They make you feel better. They make you smarter. What's not to love about Omega-3s? But getting Omega-3s in your diet can be challenging.
One of the most talked about sources of Omega 3 is fish. Fish are perhaps the best source for Omega 3 fatty acids. Unfortunately, I'm not a fish fan. I've never like them. So there goes resource number one.
I took a trip to the supermarket to look for vitamins that include Omega 3. There's a huge selection, and most of them are fish oil supplements. You swallow fish oil pills, so it's not like you get the fish taste. But that still doesn't seem to appealing to me.
I had given up on finding a good source of Omega 3 that I could stomach until one day when I was eating a packaged salad. The package included a packet of walnuts, and the walnut bag said "Great source of Omega 3!" I did a little follow of research and it turns out that Walnuts have far more Omega 3 than just about any other nut. You can also buy walnuts in a number of varieties, including ones coated in sugar and cinnamon, butter toffee walnuts, fudget coated walnuts, carmalized walnuts, and more. Eating walnuts is a great way to get your Omega 3. Sprinkle toasted walnuts on your salads or pop them in your mouth for a snack.
