Eat Healthy when Eating Out
It's hard to eat healthy foods when you eat out at a restaurant. It seems like all of the options are fried or smothered in cheese. But you can eat healthy when you eat at a restaurant.
Here are some tips for eating healthy when eating out.
1. One of the most unhealthy portions of restaurant meals are the sides, typically fries or potato chips. But almost all restaurants offer a substitute. For example, many of Jason's Deli sandwiches come with chips, but you can also get fruit. Look for steamed vegetables or fruit as a substitute for greasy fries.
2. Another reason eating out has gotten a bad name is the portion size. It seems like the portions are impossible to eat in one sitting, but eating 2/3rds of your meal leaves just that one...small...amount left. It's not enough to get a to-go box, but too much to leave on your plate. Ah, the aggrevation! Here's a trick - order half of your meal prepared in a to-go box. Then you'll only eat a half at the restaurant. Most restaurants will oblige your request.
3. Think ordering a salad is the way to eat healthy at a restaurant? Not necessarily. Many salads are loaded with fat, and not just in the salad dressing. Watch out for salads with bacon or lots of cheese. And ask that your dressing be placed on the side so you don't end up using more salad dressing than you need.
